There is no bad time for a soup recipe. Sure, the summer months are hot, but you can still squeeze in the occasional light, tasty soup. Even if you take the summer off, we have at least 7 months of soup season here in Minnesota. From the lasagna soup pictured here to brothy to creamy to chili(y?), there are soups for everyone. Here are some of my favorite hearty soup recipes that incorporate different styles, flavors, and ingredients for any month you are craving soup!
Plus, here are some tips and tricks for how to store your soups. Check out 30 of my all-time soup recipe favorites below.
Homemade Soup Ingredients
- Homemade or high-quality stock is a must! I keep a plastic bag in my freezer and throw all my veggie scraps in there to save up to make homemade stock recipe or try new soup recipes with fresh stock.
- I also love making my own stock, but when I don’t have time to make my own, I use Better Than Bouillon to create a rich, savory base of stock to build on.
Have an Instant Pot? Making stock in them is easy!
Making stick in the Instant Pot is a reason to own one. It so easy!
To make broth or stock in your Instant Pot, all you need are some vegetable scraps, bones from a turkey, chicken or beef, and water. You can also add seasonings like peppercorns, kosher salt, and bay leaves, if you’d like. I keep a bag of vegetable scraps in my freezer and as soon as it’s full, I know it’s time to make some Instant Pot broth!
How To Store Soup
I freeze my soups in Mason Jars. The pint jar is a 2-cup portion that is perfect for a single serving. The quart jars are 4 cup servings, perfect for lunch or dinner with some fresh bread and a cheese course. The key to using Mason jars is to leave an inch and a half of space at the top, which works great for all kinds of soup recipes.

I also love gifting soup! They make for great meal train meals, and are fun to give in little servings. You can even host a soup swap featuring your favorite soup recipes.
Have you tried the silicone souper cubes? These are also ingenious inventions! Each Cube is two cups of soup, perfect for freezing!
