Canned beverages are EVERYWHERE! No longer are you relegated to grabbing a pilsner or IPA. From hard seltzers to sour beers and canned cocktails, there are many fun summer sips to grab for Memorial Day and beyond. Here are some of my favorites that we will be having at the cabin this summer, and I have ranked them on a summer sips scale from 1 to 5 (5 being awesome on my summer drinks scale).
Favorite Canned Summer Drinks
Fulton Brewery has doubled down on the hard cider category and now offers two different variety packs. My favorite is the “Even More Fun Pack,” highlighting Fulton’s best-selling blood orange and citrus ginger flavors. It also has the hard-to-find hopped flavor (like a very light and refreshing citrus IPA, but not so heavy) and their awesome strawberry rhubarb with its light, refreshing, and gluten-free lovely strawberry flavor that comes in at with a 5% ABV.

This is one of my favorite breweries in the Twin Cities. (listen to the Makers of MN podcast episode I recorded with Jeremy Pryes earlier this year).
Their Miraculum Midwest IPA is one of my favorite IPAs in town. Clocking in at 6.4 % ABV, it’s a malty, hoppy, citrusy smooth summer sipper that you can find in cans, some bars, and always on tap at the brewery. New this year is the canned royal raspberry sour ale which is also fantastic. This is one of my favorite Sour beers. It’s super tart and smells like a berry patch, and weighs in at 4.8% ABV, so it makes a good summer pontoon sipper.

Hornitos’ new Mango and Lime Seltzer with all-natural flavors make for a very easy summer cocktail. The products combine real Plata tequila with refreshing seltzer, resulting in the perfect choice for those seeking a refreshing, ready-made cocktail. The ABV on these is 5% and I may or may not be using the Seltzer in my Summer Margaritas to make them a bit more bubbly. The Lime is great but the Mango is very refreshing as well.

The Frenchie is a canned cocktail from Vikre Distillery up in Duluth. Actually, it is two canned cocktails in one can, so pace yourself. This is a lovely lady afternoon with their delicious craft gin blended with rose wine, lemon juice, and rose liquor. Just chill and serve and pretend you are on the French Riviera. 12.5% Alcohol per can.
Frenchie – 5 sips but PLEASE pace yourself! 🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞
This is a terrific local cidery, and they have introduced a cider that I think will compete with the hard seltzers on the market called Skinny Tire. It drinks like a hard seltzer and is very refreshing and light with a 4% ABV and only 80 calories. I would drink this over a light beer any day.

In March of 2018, brothers Sean and James Ewen opened a taproom off of Bush Lake Road in an industrial park in Edina. They have their own kitchen on-site, and they are making some exciting beers and seltzers, including the Pina Colada hard seltzer that tastes just like a Pina colada without the thick mouthfeel. At 5.5% ABV, this could instantly transport you to a tropical island. I also grabbed their Vacation Mode Tropical Milkshake IPA because it sounded so good. It was. A bit heavy for summer drinks, but a happy feeling runs through your body when you sip this 7% ABV with guava, pineapple, mango, passion fruit, and Citra hops with a hint of vanilla. The lactose added to this beer gives it that creamy mouthfeel and milkshake vibe.
