In the dead of winter when it’s 2 below outside you need something to warm you up. There is nothing better to warm you up from the inside out than hot peppers. Well, there is one thing better, the new Habanero Rum from Twin Cities Skaalvenn Distillery. I really like rum drinks, especially a peach rum drink. They remind me of the Caribbean and the sailing trips we have taken.
The peach rum drink recipe below has a double whammy of heat. I mix the rum with The Twisted Shrubs Peach Habanero Shrub. Shrubs started catching on a few years back and are great for mixing drinks. A shrub is fruit, vinegar and sugar, and in the case of this shrub there is Habanero added as well. This shrub has sweet and heat and is perfect in this drink.
I first met the Twisted Shrubs owner, Scott Dillon, at the Farmers Market I curated this Summer, Riverplace Market. Scott had been working at General Mills when he got turned onto making shrubs and decided to make a career of it. I really like his shrubs as they are not too sweet and they are perfect for mixing cocktails. He has strawberry lime, blueberry lemon, apple ginger and pineapple habanero.
