Minnesota Meat Markets

A tasty plate of grilled goodness starts at the meat market. Luckily, Minnesota has plenty of local butchers and meat markets, many of them family-owned. These are a few of my favorites, but no matter where you are in the state, you can ask around or Google your way to finding a new spot for all your fresh meats.

  • The St. Paul Meat Shop – located on Grand Ave, they feature whole-animal butchering.
  • Kramarczuk’s — The Northeast institution with Eastern European flavors.
  • Clancey’s — Another Minneapolis institution that also has excellent sandwiches.
  • Hackenmuellers — A traditional go-to spot in Robbinsdale with 120 years of history.
  • Anoka Meat and Sausage – Teena Anderson owns this  butcher shop that has delicious pacakged goods too. Try her award winning pickles, mustard and prepared meats that are seasoned, prepped and ready to pop on the grill.
  • Zup’s — My favorite when I am up in Ely.
  • Thielen Meats — Located in Pierz, it’s a must-stop on your way up North.
