Blueberry Basil Margarita with Hornitos Tequila

Blueberry Basil Margarita with Hornitos Tequila

If you follow my recipes, by now y0u have deduced that I love a great margarita. In recent months I have done a best restaurant margaritas recap on The Jason Show. I have published recipes for my mother-in-law’s classic margarita recipe, and one for my watermelon margarita. I perfected the watermelon margarita recipe on my spring break vacation in Palm Springs. As we head into July, I amp up the margarita situation with fresh blueberries that are all over our property in Ely, Minnesota to create this blueberry basil margarita. Whether you are using fresh-picked, store-bought, or the tasty little frozen Maine blueberries when muddled with Basil and mixed with lime and Hornitos Tequila you have a winner on your hands.

  • 2 oz Hornitos Tequila
  • 1 oz Cointreau,
  • ½ cup blueberries fresh or frozen
  • 1 handful of fresh basil leaves
  • 1 oz lime juice fresh

  1. Place the blueberries, basil, and lime juice in a cocktail shaker and muddle together making sure to tear the leaves to release their oil and to crush the basil.
  2. Fill the shaker with ice, and add the tequila, orange liquor, and lime juice.  Place the top on and shake to combine all ingredients.
  3. Run the edge of a lime wedge around a rocks cocktail glass. Dip the edge of the glass in kosher salt. Add ice.
  4. Strain the contents of the shaker into the ice-filled glass. Garnish with fresh basil, blueberries, and the lime wedge.
