Stephanie’s Picks: True North Basecamp

True North Basecamp | Stephanie Hansen's PicksA few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to talk with the folks who started True North Basecamp on my Makers of Minnesota Podcast (Season 3 Episode 6). They hooked me on the idea of “comfy camping.” When I say “comfy camping,” I mean it. True North Basecamp has a few options. You can pitch your tent at any of their 23 campsites or rent one of their super adorable six lakefront cabins. Each cabin has a full size and three twin beds. The houses come with AC and wi-fi, so you are not hiking to the nearest hill to find a signal. The cabins are right on the lake and have a fire ring with grate for testing your chefy open fire grilling skills or grab a pizza from Iron Range Eatery and a Growler from Cuyuna Brewing Company practice your smore tech. I love that these campsites and cabins are perfect for adventure trips or just getting your family some social distance. Campsites start at $29, Cabin tents $ 54, and cabins $89, so it’s really an excellent option for a family adventure.

Right now, they are selling gift cards for Black Friday. Here’s how it works, for each $100 gift card you buy, the gift you an extra $20.

True North Basecamp connects to the Cuyuna Lakes recreation area in Crosby, Minnesota. The area is known for Mountain Bike Trails, and in the Summer, what was once a series of mining pits now are a series of beautiful lakes, some that have clarity up to 40 feet. These Former mines are known for their beautiful turquoise water and are known for creating the perfect environment for stand up paddle boarding. Local Paddle Board Makers, Paddle North, will offer a free test drive of any of their boards on a Twin Cities Lake (weather permitting, of course) if you call them.

I am a huge fan of True North Basecamp. Book a Winter Fat Bike trip or plan a Summer paddle board and biking getaway at these Cuyuna connected cabins and campsites.
