Northbound Smokehouse and Brew Pub in Minneapolis is a smoke lover’s dream. Established in 2012, this is an excellent neighborhood brewpub with a food concept they call “upscale blue collar.” With two appearances on Food Network’s Diner’s, Drive-ins, and Dives, you should order their smoked chicken wings and North Shore smoked fish platter with smoked salmon, trout, white fish dip, and pimento cheese and crackers. Get smokey Angus beef and black bean chili topped with jalapeno, peppers and smoked cheese, and green onions. You can have this smokey chili on the order of chili cheese fries or on two all-beef hot dogs for the ultimate chili dogs.

The Loon Café has been serving award-winning chili for over 40 years in Minneapolis and is now also in St Paul in the iconic historic Hamm Building. Pecos River Red is a Gluten Free award-winning chili that the Loon has been serving for 40 years with sirloin steak, Tex Mex spices, and served loaded. Pintos Diablo is a sweeter ground beef, veggie-based chili with kidney beans. Their veggie chili is bean based, a bit sweet, and a bit smokey. Their Chicken Chili ala Ski Dad is a thick blend of chicken, peppers, onions, and green chilis topped with jalapeno cream cheese and green onions. Go all-in and order the chili trio served with a side of Texas toast and taste all three chilis.
Surly Brewing has a host of great beers, but their beef brisket chili is also an award winner in my book. Thick, Rich, Tomatoey, and served loaded for a stick-to-your-ribs spicey and smokey Texas chili kind of experience.

Snuffy’s St Paul’s famous burgers since 1983 have a fantastic classic ground beef chili available by the bowl, on a plate of French fries, on a hot dog, or a burger. Snuffy’s chili is sweet, beefy, and tastes like moms with mild spice that even kids will love.
