Italian Sliders – Easy Game Day Recipe

When you want the ultimate Game Day, easy peasy bite, something warm, melty, and loaded with flavour, these Italian Sliders are a winner. Think of them as a cross between your favourite Italian deli sandwich and a crowd-pleasing party slider, complete with a tangy chopped salad tucked inside for extra crunch and freshness.

Delicious Italian sliders

The combination of King’s Hawaiian rolls, layers of turkey, salami, pepperoni, and provolone, all brushed with a buttery Italian herb topping, is comfort food at its finest. Add that chopped Italian salad for a pop of acidity and texture, and you’ve got a slider that’s a little bit fancy but still ridiculously easy to make when you are looking for somthing easy to make during a game day halftime.

More Sandwich Recipes:

The key to great sliders is balancing flavours, salty cured meats, creamy cheese, and a fresh element to keep things light. The chopped Italian salad does all the heavy lifting here, adding a burst of tangy, crunchy goodness that makes each bite taste like a mini sub from your favourite sandwich shop.

I love serving these hot from the oven with extra salad on the side, so guests can pile on more if they want. They’re perfect for game day, casual get-togethers, or even a fun family dinner. Best of all, you can prep everything in advance and simply assemble and bake when it’s time to eat.

Italian Sliders Ingredients

As with all my recipes, I like to make sure the ingredients are easy to find at any grocery store, no speciality shop required. Here’s a little more about what goes into these sliders:

  • King’s Hawaiian Rolls: Soft, slightly sweet, and the perfect base for a savoury filling.
  • Provolone Cheese: Melts beautifully and brings a mild, creamy flavour.
  • Ham, Salami and Pepperoni: A mix of deli meats for a classic Italian sandwich taste.
  • Mayonnaise: Helps the sliders stay moist and adds richness.
  • Butter, Italian Seasoning and Garlic Powder: Brushed over the tops for irresistible aroma and flavour.
  • Chopped Italian Salad: Iceberg lettuce, red onion, Giardiniera, banana peppers, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and Italian seasoning for a fresh, tangy crunch.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make these sliders ahead of time?

Yes! You can prepare the salad and assemble the meat and cheese layers a few hours in advance. Just wait to bake and add the salad until right before serving to keep everything fresh.

Can I use different meats?

Absolutely. Try roast beef, turkey, or even prosciutto for a slightly different flavour profile.

What’s Giardiniera?

It’s a tangy Italian relish made from pickled vegetables. You can usually find it in jars in the pickle or condiment aisle.

A Few Possible Slider Variations

  • Vegetarian: Skip the meat and use grilled veggies like courgette, aubergine, and roasted peppers.
  • Spicy: Add jalapeños or use spicy Giardiniera for extra heat.
  • Caprese: Swap the deli meats for fresh mozzarella, tomato, and basil, then drizzle with balsamic glaze.
  • Pesto Lovers: Spread pesto instead of mayonnaise for a herby twist.

Storing Leftover Sliders

If you have any leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Reheat in the oven at 180°C (350°F) for 5–7 minutes to keep the bread soft and the cheese melty. Note that the salad will lose some crispness after refrigeration, so you might want to add it fresh when reheating.
