A gimlet is a classic, tart cocktail made with gin and lime, known for its crisp, refreshing simplicity. You can make it with fresh lime juice, which I prefer, or use Rose’s lime juice in a pinch.

I like gin. I like to make a simple gimlet with gin and fresh lime juice or Rose’s lime juice. I have also made tequila gimlets with Blanco tequila. When I moved, I noticed that I had a full bottle of Vikre Distillery Aquavit that I had not even opened so I put together a sage, aquavit gimlet that is perfect for fall and winter entertaining. This recipe makes one cocktail.
How to Make a Gimlet!
Instructions
- Add the Aquavit, lime juice, simple syrup, and 3-4 sage leaves (rub them in your hands to release the oils) to a shaker, then add ice.
- Shake well, then strain into a coupe glass. Garnish with a sprig of fresh sage.
What Is Aquavit?
Aquavit is a Scandinavian distilled spirit that’s been made for centuries. It’s similar to vodka but flavored with a distinctive set of botanicals. So its a close cousin to gin, which I have already admitted I like very much!
What are Other Aquavit Cocktails?

Here are sone other Aquavit Cocktails worth trying:
Aquavit Margarita – Try my Margarita variations but with Aquavit as the spirit instead of Tequilla
