Coronavirus and the Governor’s mandate of 10 people max in your home, from no more than three households, maybe putting a cramp in your Thanksgiving feast. Many of us are planning smaller, immediate family gatherings. Some are forgoing Friendsgiving. Typically, Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. It’s a high holiday for cooks. This year I am considering breaking the mold and doing something completely different, and I may just have a Thanksgiving Pie buffet. Why not. Buy 4-6 pies. Eat 2 slices for breakfast, 2 for lunch, and 2 for dinner. Think about it – It could be an effortless way to get your perfect pies in without all the Thanksgiving cooking drama.
Ok – I really won’t do that. I’ll make turkey, gravy and stuffing, but I do love the idea.
If you are needing to set up a pie buffet or are going to bring a pie to a friend’s house, of 10 or fewer people, from three households – here are my picks for Twin Cities pie options:
Best Twin Cities Pie
The beautiful streusel and caramel topped pie from Grocers Table is a newcomer to Thanksgiving in the Twin Cities, but this pie cannot be missed. The crust is buttery and filled with apples and topped with a caramel streusel topping that gets topped with more caramel at serving. Lindsay Pohlad, the owner, shared with me that this pie is her family’s favorite Thanksgiving pie that she makes for her boys each year.
The pie is part of their Thanksgiving Feast offering, which is available to order online or for call-in and can be picked up on Tuesday or Wed the 24th or 25th. You can get the whole offering, cocktail kits, or of course, just the pie for $35.
Surdyk’s Liquor store in NE Minneapolis has a killer cheese shop next door and thriving catering business. Mary Richter and her team at Surdyks can not only cater to your entire meal, but they can also sell you sides only. Terrible at making gravy, pick some up from Surdyks, having some vegan folks over? Grab a few Vegan sides from Surdyks Cheese shop to round out your meal. The Surdyks 10 inch Thanksgiving pies are $20 ala carte and are a great value considering they are beautiful and delicious and made with organic butter, eggs, cream, sugar, flour. Choose from Maple Bourbon Pecan, Classic Apple, or Classic Pumpkin Pie. You can order a pie by emailing email@example.com or by calling the store ( 612) 0379-9757. Make sure you pre-order so you aren’t left empty-handed.

Hot Hands Pies and Biscuits is a hip newish spot in St Paul on Snelling Avenue.
Their biscuit sandwiches and sweet and savory pies, and assorted pastries are perfectly at home on your Thanksgiving table. Their Pecan Chess ($34) pie is a specialty of the shop and is a richer version of the Pecan Pie and harkens from the south with sweetened condensed milk in the filling and its divine. With a maple flavor and all-butter crust. Pies can be pre-ordered and picked up on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thanksgiving before 12 noon at their St. Paul Pie shop. They also have mini-biscuit boxes, Chocolate Mousse, and Banana Cream Pie if that’s more your speed.
In the spirit of giving, you can add a Prepaid slice of pie for $5 to your cart. In the true spirit of Thanksgiving, you can add a $5 Prepaid slice of pie to your cart, and the shop will gift that piece of pie to a stranger and pay it forward. What a great way to show your Pie Gratitude this Thanksgiving season.
