Holiday Experiences Gift Guide

On the 12/8 edition of my radio show WeeklyDish, we shared many gift ideas. One of my favorite ideas for the foodies in my life is to gift them experiences. I have compiled a list of fun foodie gift experiences that were shared on the show.  If you have other ideas feel free to share them with us at our Facebook page, Weekly Dish.

On my @makersofmn podcast, I had the pleasure of interviewing Cookie Artist for The Cookie Creative Cori Robinson. Cori makes beautiful cookies but she also teaches classes on how you can make beautiful cookies. She teaches the tricks of royal icing as well as rolling out cookies. This would be a great class for the creative baker in your life or a date activity for Valentines Day. Seats in the class are $68 and you will leave with some themed cookies.

Shelia at She Cooks Designs has cooking classes. Her latest offerings are Cooking with Kids which is fun or she has a class on Big Game cooking for Super Bowl parties turned up a notch with Empanadas, Shrimp queso or Asian sloppy joe sliders on the menu.

Take a Twin City Food tour of the famous eateries in Nordeast or the hidden gems in the St Paul Skyway system for the Winter months that includes Japanese, African and Mediterranean food tastes. Taste Twin Cities also has a pizza tour where you jump on a bus and enjoy a slice of Minneapolis on the Twin Cities’ only pizza tour. Pizza lovers will eat their way through five local pizza joints where you’ll compare pizza crusts, cheese, and sauces while learning the history of these Minneapolis staples. Tours are in the $65 range.

Get Knit Events has tours ranging from Curling and Craft Beer to wineries in Southern Minnesota. Tours typically involve a bus ride, samples and plenty of fun along the way. Their wine and brewery crawls are particularly popular. Their St Croix River Valley Winery Tour takes you to three different wineries with 15Plus samples along the way.

Psychic Suppers with Christine Schroeder at Kitchen in the Market on January 16 guarantee you a 10 minute reading and a hands-on cooking class of light cooking, appetizers and a champagne cocktail.

The interactive cocktail classes at Tattersall Distilling feature four different cocktails and cocktail snacks from Surdyks Cheese Shop perfect for holiday hosting, cozy fires and a long day playing in the snow. Local bartenders, Bennett and Bryce, will discuss techniques, history, and theory behind the drinks and will give you tips to make them at home.

The Pub Pass guarantees you a free beer at any of their 25 participating pubs. You purchase the pass, visit the establishments and get your free beer and pub passport stamped. These are popular gifts for couples priced at $25 per pass with visits to Bryant Lake Bowl, The Freehouse and Surly Brewing on your pub list.  Another great value for a couple is to buy two seats on a pedal pub ride! For $55 You receive a voucher for 2 complimentary mixer seats in 2019 along with 2 MN Craft Notes Passports including 14 free beers and 4 craft cocktails at places like: Summit Brewing, Bittercube, Lawless Distilling, Sociable Cider, Town Hall Brewery, Lift Bridge and Flat Earth Brewery.

City Tins encourages you to visit unique and locally-owned restaurants using CityTins coaster gift cards.  The tin features 25 coaster gift cards to 25 iconic eateries in Minneapolis and Saint Paul. Each coaster is worth $10 off your tab at the featured locally-owned restaurant. That’s a $250 value in every tin!

For the Cofee lover on your list, there is Craft Notes coffee passport. For $25 your gift recipient receives over $140 in complimentary lattes, 1/2 off coffee beans and a great tour of curated coffee shops in the Twin Cities.

One of my most favorite gifts finds is dinner for two with a 7-minute helicopter ride from Minnesota Helicopters that leaves from Holman Field in Downtown St Paul and ends at Holman’s table, a wonderfully cozy little spot that has bone-in ribeye steaks, duck ragout, and wild boar pappardelle. I have really enjoyed past visits to Holmans Table.

Gifting a date night is a great opportunity to try a cooking class at Cooks Of Crocus Hill. Popular classes include Winter dinners of Spain or learning to prepare Chinese Take-Out at home.  Classes are $85 a couple.

Lastly, if you and man’s best friend need more time together consider the Dog-Friendly Indoor Brewery Pass as a gift idea. Our friends at Sidewalk Dog assure me the Indoor Pass is paw-ticulary pup-ular because all the featured breweries have dog-friendly taprooms, so it’s an INDOOR activity people and their pups can do together in the winter and it’s only $20 for 17 participating taprooms.
